City Comes Together For Annual Toy Drive

San Carlos public safety units join Kiwanis Club for 17th annual toy drive.

The San Carlos police and fire department will partner with the city’s Kiwanis Club and Bianchini’s Market to host this year's community toy drive in the City of Good Living.

“We see this as an opportunity to bring together our newly formed public safety agencies and partner with a service club and a business with deep roots in the community,” says San Carlos Bureau Captain Greg Rothaus.

On Dec. 3, the toy drive will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in front of Bianchini’s Market at 810 Laurel St. This partnership is new for the Kiwanis Club, the agency that has hosted the Laurel Street toy drive single-handedly for the past 16 years.

The Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters will be collecting unwrapped toys, games, and books for the annual drive. Cash donations are also accepted and will be used to purchase gift-cards. Collection barrels are available through the months of November and December outside each fire station in San Carlos and throughout the county for those interested in donating.

“We want to ensure San Carlos residents know we are an integral part of this community, said Redwood City Fire Chief Jim Skinner, who now oversees the San Carlos Fire Department. “We are very proud to return the support that has been given to us this past year.”

The toy drive is intended to help many cities on the peninsula in addition to San Carlos families. The Service League in Redwood City and the Children’s Fund in San Mateo also depend on this annual effort.

“This partnership will further increase our capacity to meet local family needs and will benefit the community in greater ways,” said Sandy Abrahamson, the Kiwanis Toy Drive Chairperson.
