My first post, or "Will anyone read this while Bin Laden and the Royal Wedding are in the news?"

Be warned: I’ve never done this before. When Kenny sent out the word that he was interested in getting blogs going for the San Carlos Patch, I cannot fully explain why, but this got me thinking. After all, I live in San Carlos. The full story is I started working in Redwood Shores in 1995.  And since I was one of those people (and you know who you are) that eat out for lunch everyday, San Carlos was the natural place to go. Still is. Then I went and fell in love with this wonderful woman, who just so happened to live in San Carlos. We got hitched, bought our first house together in San Carlos circa 2001, and the rest is history.

Now surely simply living in San Carlos doth not alone qualify someone to have a San Carlos blog. But I believe I have two other qualities that will help make this work. First, I do more than live in San Carlos. The wife and I try to be active in the community in various ways. And going back to what I noted above: San Carlos is a great place to eat – and I love food! The wife and I are big fans of eating out, and I hope you agree with me that one of San Carlos’ greatest strengths is its great variety of quality eats.

And the last, but not least, reason why I think the idea of me using this as my first foray into the blogosphere makes sense is that I have lots of opinions. Lots. They may not be interesting to anyone beyond me, but I have ‘em. I like to talk about virtually everything, have many random thoughts, and am not afraid to share them. In fact, my dedication to writing this blog may increase my wife’s happiness, because then she doesn’t have to listen to all my hackneyed thoughts and ideas. It’ll give me an outlet, and in doing so, spare her the continued indignity. We’ll see.

I was tempted to try and kick this off by going the most obnoxiously boring and trite avenue as possible, along the lines of: “My name is Keith, and this is my blog.” I also considered more offbeat approaches: “My name is Keith, and this my frog”, and “Insider scoop to the final Harry Potter movie”. There were also the ones smacking of desperation: “Hi, I think I have important things to say, so you should really, really read my blog”, and “Please read my blog, there’s probably worse things you could be doing”. But I think I’m going to go with “Middle-aged in San Carlos”. It’s what I am, it’s where I am, and fits as well as anything. If you’ve read this far, you have my sympathies. Until next time…..
