The majority of the grantees will use the money to provide services to fight obesity in San Mateo County, although other goals of the grants are to address  domestic and teen violence and issues of aging.

“The reach of Kaiser Permanente’s efforts goes beyond our walls,” said Frank Beirne, Kaiser Permanente’s Senior Vice-President and  Area Manager in San Mateo County. “And, the impact we make touches the lives of thousands of people and families, both today and for years to come.”

The grants are divided between Kaiser Permanente’s Redwood City and South San Francisco medical centers. Among the grantees are  Samaritan House’s free clinic in San Mateo, Peninsula Family Service in North Fair Oaks, CORA’s county-wide domestic violence prevention services, and several Boys and Girls Clubs in Daly City, South San Francisco, and Pacifica.

Recently, Kaiser Permanente’s regional offices in Oakland approved a sizeable grant to the Ravenswood Family Health Center in East Palo Alto, a long-time recipient of support from KP.

Nationally, Kaiser Permanente grants more than $1.8 billion dollars in Community Benefit awards in eight regions across the United States. The grants affect the health and well-being of more than half-a-million individuals.  The Community Benefit grants fund charitable health care organizations, children’s health insurance, and consumer health information, among other programs.
