Pet Food Express Covery Your K9 Pet Wash

This weekend, dog owners have an opportunity to give their dog a bath at the fifth annual Cover Your K-9 fundraiser, which will help buy customized bulletproof vests, trauma kits which may save a police dog’s life. Also retirement funds for medical needs for retired K9’s.

Pet Food Express is hosting the pet wash during store hours on June 30 and July 1 at all of its 43 Bay Area stores. You can wash your dog for $15 and all proceeds from the pet wash will be donated to Cover Your K-9. Tokens can be bought in advance at Pet Food Express; you can also buy them for a whole year and the money will also go to Cover Your K-9.

We started the fundraiser back in 2008 at these two stores and have proudly watched it spread to all the stores. It came to our attention that more than half of all the K-9 dogs working with police departments did not have protective vests like their human partners did. Lack of funding was the primary reason, so we set out to raise money to buy these vests by donating proceeds from Pet Food Express pet washes and enlisting the public’s help with other donations, too.

As a result of the fundraisers, a new state-of-the-art, lighter, and more protective bulletproof vest was designed here in California with the help of local K-9 units and the Cover Your K-9 Fund of the Police and Working K-9 Foundation. To-date, 135 vests have been donated to police, sheriffs, and highway patrol K-9s in Northern California.
