Paul Mendez puts IBA Title on the line against Dashon Johnson on July 26

IBA middleweight champion Paul “El Gallo Negro” Mendez 13-2-1 (5 KOs) is ready to put both his title and five-bout winning streak on the line against Dashon “Fly Boy” Johnson 14-11-3 (5 KOs) on Friday, July 26, at the historic Fox Theatre in Redwood City, Calif.  Mendez, who resides in Walnut Creek, Calif., but trains in Salinas, Calif., won his IBA title in December of 2012 in a fifth-round KO over Lester Gonzalez.  The boxer-puncher looks to repeat the feat against Johnson at the same venue that has played host to sold-out crowds in both March and June of this year. Johnson, from Escondido, Calif., is upset-minded after knocking out previously unbeaten Adam Trupish earlier this year.

The co-main event will feature the explosive Bruno “Aloha Kid” Escalante 8-1-1 (4 KO’s) of San Carlos, Calif., by way of Cebu, Philippines.  After being led into the ring by his friend, San Francisco 49ers star Frank Gore, and scoring a sensational second-round KO on the June show in Redwood City, Bruno is focused on making another emphatic statement against veteran Manuel Galaviz 7-10 (4 KO’s) of Sonora, Mex.  A fourth straight win could position Bruno for an IBA junior bantamweight title fight.
