The San Carlos Library’s much anticipated improvement project is about to begin. As a result of a collaborative effort among the San Mateo County Library, the City of San Carlos, and the Friends of the San Carlos Library, improvements will be made to the facility to enhance the experience for the thousands of individuals who enjoy the library. To accomplish this work, it will be necessary to close the library on Saturday, May 18 at 5 p.m.

The San Carlos Library Improvement Project will focus on reconfiguring the existing layout to create a more functional library.

These improvements will include a special space for teens, a one-point service desk, quieter reading and study areas, an inviting area of attractive displays featuring new books, CDs, and DVDs, clustered public computers, expanded children’s room, toddler-appropriate computers, convenient self-check stations and a colorful, fresh ambiance.

During the closure, a temporary library space will be open on the second floor of the current building, offering limited services during the renovation. Customers will still be able to browse high demand items; check out and return library material; place and pick up holds; have access to public computers and printing; and enjoy limited library programming.

The Temporary San Carlos Library will open on Tuesday, May 28 and the hours will be: Monday and Thursday 10 am – 6 pm, Tuesday and Wednesday 12 noon – 8 pm, Saturday 9 am – 5 pm and closed on Friday and Sunday. Bookmobile service will be offered the third Sunday of every month from 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm during the renovation in conjunction with the Friends of the Library monthly booksales.

The anticipated duration of the San Carlos Library Improvement Project is six months, and the renovated San Carlos Library is expected to reopen in early November 2013.
