The unexpected death of Mayor Omar Ahmad has left a gap in the city council. And now San Carlos is looking to fill that gap.

The application process has begun to fill the slot of the fifth council member for a 6 month term on the dais alongside Vice Mayor Andy Klein and councilmen Randy Royce, Bob Grassilli and Matt Grocott.

The application process will be open until June 3 at 5 p.m. and the council has set June 6 as a tentative selection date.

At the latest council meeting, acting-Mayor Klein asked those who apply to do so without the intention of running in the Nov. 8 elections, as their 6 month term could give them an unfair advantage in the race. Klein's suggestion was seconded by Grassilli.
