Google Buys Redwood City-Based Wildfire

The social media marketing company, Wildfire, will join Google to increase Google's social media presence.

Google is extending its tech grip into Redwood City with the acquisition of Redwood City-based social media company, Wildfire.

Wildfire is a four-year old company that helps companies use social media for marketing purposes. In two and a half years, the company has grown from five to almost 400 employees, and 16,000 customers use its social media platform, according to its website. Some big name customers include Virgin, Cirque du Soleil, Gilt Group and Spotify.

“We truly could not think of a more perfect home for Wildfire,” wrote Wildfire founders Alain Chuard and Victoria Ransom on their website.

The founders wrote that they envision a “better platform for managing all digital media marketing” through the combined resources of both companies. However, the service and day-to-day activity will remain largely unchanged at Wildfire.
