Nothing Like a Stack of Pancakes After a Run

For more than two decades the Rotary Club of San Carlos has joined with the City of Good Living to celebrate Hometown Days at Burton Park.

This year’s festival is being held on May 18 and 19, 2013.  The weekend event kicks off Saturday morning with a parade down Laurel Street and Rotary’s Miss Pancake will be part of the procession.

Rotary plays a huge role on Sunday morning, May 19, as it concurrently runs it renowned Pancake Breakfast ; and the officially-sanctioned 5K/10K Fun Run/Walk.                    These two staple fundraising events for Rotary raise nearly half of the Club’s annual contributions it makes to the community through youth scholarships and funding to other worthy and deserving entities that serve San Carlos and the surrounding cities.

The Fun Run was inaugurated in 1990 and each year it attracts larger participation despite competing against the notorious Bay to Breakers.  Serious runners engage in setting a bristling pace over clearly-marked city streets.  The race begins and concludes at the circle on Chestnut Street across from the San Carlos Youth Center in the heart of Burton Park.

Less serious runners, walkers and parents pushing toddlers and infants in carriages can be seen throughout the streets as they wend their way back to the finish.  For many the prize awarded to them for their participation in the run/walk is a ticket to the pancake breakfast.

With multiple tables set up in left field of the softball field along Cedar Street diners line up for a scrumptious meal of pancakes which are hot off the three griddles that Rotarians use to satisfy the hungry throng.  The pancakes are accompanied by sausages, orange juice and steaming hot coffee.

Advanced Fun Run registrations can be made by going on line to www.Active.com.  Pancake tickets are available from any Rotarian.  Entry into the race, or breakfast tickets are available on the day of the event so all residents, friends and visitors to the fine City of San Carlos are encouraged to run or walk and build up a hearty appetite and then devour a hearty pancake breakfast before enjoying the multiple venues that have made Hometown Days a successful and feel-good City-wide event.
