Woodside Home Sells for $117.5 Million

Tech investor Yuri Milner's record $100 million paid for a Los Altos Hills home has been eclipsed by an undisclosed buyer.

Move over Yuri Milner. The San Mateo County Times has reported that an estate in Woodside has shattered the previous record as the most expensive home ever sold.

A "sprawling" Woodside estate owned by private equity investor Tully M. Friedman closed the books on a sale for $117.5 million to an undisclosed buyer represented by Los Angeles-based SV Projects LLC in November. Like many large real estate transactions, the sale was hidden and just came to light when reporter Pete Carey found it in public records. That breaks the 2011 record of $100 million for the French chateau-inspired estate in Los Altos Hills.

The home reportedly features a pool with an 1,100-square-foot poolhouse, a nearly 800-square-foot detached library, a 700-square-foot "retreat" building, and more.

We'll see how long the record lasts in a recovering market. Just last Friday, as the Woodside home sale was hitting the news, former Texas Rangers owner Tom and Cinda Hicks put their 42,500-square foot mansion on the market for $135 million. It's already being dubbed "the Dallas Palace" and is the most expensive home on the market in the country. It's still short of the $150 million that Candy Spelling asked in 2009 when she put up for sale the Los Angeles home called "The Manor" she and her late husband, Aaron Spelling, owned. It sold for $85 million in 2011.
