San Carlos Library Pledges 10K to Tutoring Effort

The Healthy Cities Tutoring program gives one-on-one instruction to elementary and middle school children.

The Board of Directors of the Friends of the San Carlos Library met on Aug. 20 and voted to donate $10,000 to support the work of the local nonprofit Healthy Cities Tutoring.

Healthy Cities Tutoring provides elementary and middle school children with one-on-one tutoring and mentoring from community volunteers. The program began in 1997 and provided tutoring to 196 students during the 2012-2013 school year.

The Friends of the San Carlos Library has been a generous and long-term supporter of the organization and values the success of the program supporting literacy in children. Many students enrolled in the program receive tutoring at the San Carlos Library and benefit from the flexible hours that the library maintains.
