They all came together for the same cause, toddlers barely able to walk to those celebrating their golden years, from all walks of life, all shapes and sizes, from the Cub Scouts to the Kiwanis Club.
Burton Park was turned into a celebration, a memorial and a battleground all at once. It's a beautiful sight.
Team Connie's staging area was a mixture of color and light, rest area and activity center. The Mitchell's, the Kitto's and the Gutierrez's came together in support of Connie, a survivor.
Brittany Gutierrez formed a long braclet of colorful clips, one for each lap around a specially decorated track.
"I have 61," she said, "for now."
Companies, service organizations and individuals all walked the walk. As of 8 p.m. Saturday night, the San Carlos event had raised just under $43,000.
These are true heroes.
