Mountain Lion Spotted Near Devonshire Canyon

Sheriff's deputies were deployed to investigate mountain lion spotting; animal contained within boundaries.

According to the County Sheriff, a mountain lion was spotted Friday afternoon walking near the 400 block of Winding Way Road near the Devonshire Canyon.

Although the animal was determined to have been walking within its habitat limits along a canyon trail by sheriff's deputies, the sheriff's office released a list of tips to residents in case of a confrontation with a mountain lion. 

-  Do not approach it, especially one that is feeding or with offspring.

- Avoid hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active—dawn, dusk, and at night.

- Keep a close watch on small children.

- Do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms; throw rocks or other objects.

- Pick up small children.
