Meet the Finalists for Queen of the Festival

The Queen of the Festival contestants are part of the North Fair Oaks Community Festival, sponsored by the Sheriff's Office of San Mateo County, and are in the running for scholarships worth up to $10,000.

Iztel D. graduated from Sequoia High and plans to study civil engineering at Santa Clara University.

Iztel G., a Menlo-Atherton High grad, is attending Sacramento State and wants to study immigration law.

Cadres, Janice and Angela also have worthy goals.

All five finalists are hoping to fill the shoes of Queen of the Festival, one of the many highlights of the North Fair Oaks Community Festival that benefits various programs of the Sheriff's Office of San Mateo County.

The winner receives a $10,000 scholarship.

The finalists appear at the Farmers Market Downtown Redwood City every Tuesday in July between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

They will also be at the Courthouse Square on July 26 for Movie at the Square and will appear at the Bay Area Gardeners Foundation Banquet in Foster City on July 28.

It's all part of the promotion that leads up to Festival Day on Aug. 19, when Middlefield Road is closed to through traffice from 1st to 5th Ave. in Redwood City for the party that runs 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Raffle tickets are currently available and information will be released through the website as it becomes available.
