County Offers Free Flu Shots For National Flu Vaccination Week

Clinics throughout San Mateo County offer free flu shots for the next week.

As National Flu Vaccination Week begins tomorrow, the San Mateo County Health System is offering free seasonal flu shots at walk-in clinics throughout the County.

From Dec. 4-11, San Mateo County residents can walk into their nearest clinic, no appointment or identification necessary, and receive their flu shot. Clinics are also offering a nasal spray vaccine, both of which protect against three strains of flu. The shots are free, though some clinics may ask for a donation.

"It is not too late to get the flu shot," said Robyn Shaw, spokesperson for the San Mateo County Health System, in a letter. "Flu season in California generally peaks in late December through March, and the timing and spread of the flu is unpredictable. It takes about two weeks to gain protection after receiving a flu vaccination."
