Stanford University researchers, in collaboration with the March of Dimes, are conducting a study of preterm labor and birth.  This research begins to evaluate the role immunity may play in preterm labor and delivery. We will examine individual immune adaptations to understand 1) if they are different in women who have experienced term v. preterm labor, and 2) if those differences underlie one’s ability to take a pregnancy to term. The ultimate goal of research of this nature is to increase individualization of treatment and improve health outcomes.

To begin to answer the questions above we will enroll 2 groups of women. One group will include mothers who have had at least 2 full term babies, and the other group will include mothers who have had at least one preterm baby. We will collect basic health history and demographic information, as well as a single blood sample.

You may be able to help by participating if:

·       Your youngest child is at least 6 months of age

·       You are not breastfeeding

·       You are between the ages of 18 and 45

·       2 of your children were born at full term, OR 1 of your children was born prematurely (at least 8 weeks early)

Please contact Julian Silva at Jsilva01@stanford.edu, or 650-724-9341, if you would like more information.
