Who's Who in San Carlos: Gabriel Brenner
Gabriel Brenner is an independent wealth manager.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? I have a deeply rewarding job. I guide young families through the process of making career choices, deciding how much house to own, whether to send their children to private school, how much to spend, save and how to invest. It is about numbers, but it connects with clients and becomes a powerful guide when you really uncover and understand a client's dreams.
What first brought you to San Carlos? We moved to San Carlos to be closer to our children's private school. It was a tough call, because we loved Burlingame. It turns out San Carlos has the same close knit character with a smaller town feel and far better weather. We love it here.
What do you like best about the City? My favorite thing about San Carlos is soccer. I coach both of my daughters AYSO teams, coordinate the U8 Girls league and serve on the AYSO board. The spirit of joining and volunteerism in this town is inspiring. We have met so many lovely families through soccer.
How have you gotten involved in the community? Other than soccer, I briefly became very involved in the effort to make sure our parks and fields were not closed down in the city's recent budget mess. Check out my blog at: http://keepsancarlosparksopen.blogspot.com/
If you could change one thing about San Carlos, what would it be? The city needs to do more to attract business and expand its tax base. But I am heartened at the innovative efforts at regionalizing and outsourcing city services. It is an example for other cities to follow.
Do you have a favorite neighborhood park? I love hiking in Eaton Park. It's a vigorous climb and a great view.
What do you do for fun? What spare time? No seriously, I pick my kids up at school every day, help with their homework, coach their teams, the usual dad stuff. When I can do whatever I want I am cooking or hiking with my dogs.

To me, Who's Who is someone who has done something outstanding. So far these have been mostly advertisements for business people. Mr Brenner says he was briefly involved when the parks were threatened. Then he went back to his comfy life and left the hard work to the few citizens who do stay involved in making this the city he loves. He is obviously not alone, but it doesn't make him an outstanding citizen.

Hi Pat. Gabriel has also donated his time to coaching youth soccer and serving on the AYSO board. As we know, children and families are a huge part of what makes San Carlos special. Who's Who articles are meant to highlight people who have done great things for the City, but also to show the diversity and character of San Carlans.
Your recommendations a few weeks ago were great. Let me know if you have any more!
